About Prayer: Boosts and Hindrances

Here are some Scriptures that teach us what factors strengthen or hinder our prayers:

BOOSTS

1. Praying in Jesus’s name:

John 14:13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

2. Praying according to God’s will:

1John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him

How do we know how to pray according to God’s will?
By praying based on Scriptural commands.

3. Praying in agreement with another believer:

Matthew 18:19
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

HINDRANCES

1. Wrong, selfish motives

James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures

2. Husband maltreats wife

1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

3. Didn’t ask God

James 4:2b
You do not have because you do not ask God.

John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
