James1:12 NIV Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
The Lord Himself promises to bless with the crown of life those who persevere under trial. Promises are only valid for the duration of the life of the one giving the promise. The Lord Himself is eternal, so this promise is eternal, as is the crown of life unlike the crowns that the world gives.

The NASB translation entitles this passage “Loving God Under Trials” and mentions “temptations” as part of a person’s trials. It may be temptation to sin or temptation to give up. We are exhorted to persevere during trial or temptation, to remain loving God… and loving God is measured by obedience (even when it is difficult to do so).
John 14:23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
1John 2:5a But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them.
