Dual Citizenship

It’s great to hear about people who are able to have the best of both worlds…er countries… with each passport they carry when they have dual citizenship.

Philippians 3:20
But our citizenship is in heaven.

But in heaven, no dual citizenship allowed. It’s either heaven or not. Those of us who are already of accountable age can not sit on the border. Our will has to choose heaven if we want it. Hell, we do not need to choose, it is our default destination.

Ephesians 2:3 (CJB)
3 Indeed, we all once lived this way — we followed the passions of our old nature and obeyed the wishes of our old nature and our own thoughts. In our natural condition we were headed for God’s wrath, just like everyone else.

Phil 3:18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior frorm there, the Lord Jesus Christ.

May we overcome our natural human vanity, superficiality, and self-loving ways to build a character of substance, like that of Jesus Christ so that our behavior will be in keeping with our citizenship, caring for our own homeland, instead of acting like the terrorists that sabotage it.

Lord, please help us to behave like true citizens of heaven.
