Not all houtou foudou (the dish) are created equal. The one at Hoto Fudo (the restaurant) has the hearty homemade with love x-factor.

Chewy flat broad noodle with fresh local vegetables in an uber-rich vegetable broth make for the perfect comfort food. The one order is a big portion that it can serve 3.

Hoto Fudo has six branches but this flagship branch across Kawaguchiko Station is the easiest to find.

Don’t come on a Monday, their rest day. Come early! We joined the increasing queue before their 11am opening and were among the first ushered in to the empty restaurant but by the time we left, practically the only empty seats were the ones we vacated.

The pork belly was also yummy. Sachi introduces us to the bean-curd wrapped rice which is a popular Japanese food. Enjoy!
