Ephesians 6:12 (New Life Version) says 12 Our fight is not with people. It is against the leaders and the powers and the spirits of darkness in this world. It is against the demon world that works in the heavens.
Although certain people around us look to us like our enemy by what they do, the Bible tells us that there is a spiritual battle between good and evil, between God and the devil and whether we know, believe, like it or not, there is warfare going on and we are in the middle of it.
A person who is filled with and walking with the Holy Spirit of God will not do evil things. We must pray for those who are behaving like our enemy that they will come to the Lord and walk with Him. Instead of directing our anger at the persons who hurt us, we can direct it at the devil who is constantly scheming to let people stumble. We must also pray for ourselves that we will walk with the Lord. Psalm 139:23-24 says 23 Look through me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. 24 See if there is any sinful way in me and lead me in the way that lasts forever. We can ask the Lord to show us what things we do are not aligned with His will. Just as others look to us as our enemy, it is possible we have blind spots that make us behave in ways that are not pleasing to God that make us look like the enemy to others.
Ephesians 6:10-17 show us supernatural weapons that God gives us to fight this spiritual battle and remain standing: God’s truth (v14a), righteousness (v14b), the Good News of peace (v15), faith (v16), and the indispensable only offensive weapon in the lineup: The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God (v17). Then we must pray on all occasions (v18).
The Message (MSG) Version adds insight: And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels. Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. (Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG)
Please show me any wickedness in me that I need to change and enable me to change them so that I can be aligned with Your will. Unless I am unequivocally on Your side and fighting Your enemy, the devil, I will be putting myself in opposition against You with Your weapons pointing to me. I don’t want that. I confess that I have been so caught up with my pain that I have regarded the people who hurt me—the very ones You wish to reach— as though they were my enemies. I want to be clothed in Your full armor of truth, righteousness, readiness to share the good news of peace, faith, and seeking, knowing, and following Your Word day and night. Please help me to abide in You. I pray for my whole family to come to know You. I pray for all people, especially the ones who hurt me that You would bless them with Your love and forgiveness, salvation, and presence. May they come to know You intimately and love You with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength that their lives will be used for Your purposes, for Your side of this spiritual battle to give glory to You in Jesus’s name amen. And if You will do it now, that would be like having a melt-in-your-mouth Swiss chocolate truffle. But I know that Your ways and thoughts are higher than mine so I will trust You on Your perfect timing, in the fullness of time, at just the right time. I get it Lord, You choose the time. Thanks for listening anyway.
