John 13:35 “Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.” (John 13:34, 35)

This is not the same type of love one expresses for a good steak or gorgeous interiors. This is the kind of love which Jesus exemplified to us, the kind that made him suffer and give up his life for us even while we were yet rebellious sinners.
Romans 5:6-8 (MSG) 6-8 …Christ presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready…We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.
1 John 2:9-11 (MSG) 9-11 Anyone who claims to live in God’s light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark. It’s the person who loves brother and sister who dwells in God’s light and doesn’t block the light from others. But whoever hates is still in the dark, stumbles around in the dark, doesn’t know which end is up, blinded by the darkness.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for Your Word that clearly shows me that I can not hate. Thank You for reminding me that You, my Master, loved and died for those who were completely opposed to You which includes me. Thank You for teaching me that I should reject, and put to death all vengeful thoughts which are clearly not from You. I do not want to serve the enemy. I want to follow only after You. Help me not block light from others. Apart from You, I can not be an instrument for others to come to the light but I rely on Your supernatural cover and help. I ask that You cover my mind and heart with Your blood, fill me with Your Spirit, wash me with Your Word, that I may walk in the light only, that I may be Your true follower, walking in a manner worthy of the salvation You have given me in Jesus’s name Amen.
