In Style: Love

Some people have their favorite item to wear that makes them feel complete… like earrings, a necklace, a shawl. The Bible highly recommends the finishing item to put on as… LOVE!

Col 3:14 MSG And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

An all-purpose, all-occasion, all-weather piece of clothing: Love for Others especially the unlovable. “Never be without it”, the verse says, just as the credit card advertising says one should “never leave home without it”.

WAYS TO EXPRESS LOVE:
How can love be expressed in perceivable ways? Perhaps, overlooking a wrong for forgiving is one way, or addressing a need of the person. Perhaps, Gary Chapman’s 5 love languages can give ideas on how to demonstrate love:
1. Talk- Words of Affirmation

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

2. Time – (Not just plain time, but quality time)

Heb 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

3. Treasure – Gifts

Proverbs 21:14a A gift given in secret soothes anger

4. Touch (A pat on the shoulder, a massage, a holy hug) even 2 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.

5. Acts of Service

Gal 5:13c serve one another in love.

Lord, help me to wear love today as a garment. Love covers over a multitude of sins (1Pet 4:8). Let love and faithfulness never leave me; bind them around my neck, write them on the tablet of my heart (Prov 3:3). Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for if I love my fellowman, especially the ones difficult to love, that fulfills the law (Rom 13:8). Love never fails (1Cor 13:8). I must do everything in love (1Cor 16:14). Love is a fruit of Your Spirit (Gal 5:22a). Please fill me with Your Spirit that love may flow out from You to me and through me. Please help me to be rooted and established in love (Eph 3:17). Please help me to speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15a). Please help me to live a life of love, just as Jesus loved us and gave Himself up for me (Eph 5:). May my love abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that I may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ (Phil 1:9-10). May You make my love increase and overflow for others (1Thess 3:12a). Please help me put this love into action. Show me ways to put love into action. Teach me how to express love in ways that the recipient understands. Please help me to understand the other person’s needs. I want to learn to love truly as You love me so that people will see Jesus in His name and for His glory Amen
