God’s Plan Can Not Be Thwarted

The Egyptian king was fearful that the Israelite slaves would become too numerous and he imagined that they might turn against his country so he ordered that they be oppressed to stop them from multiplying. But the more the Israelites were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread.

Exodus1:10-11 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” 11 So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor… 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites.

In Gen 16:10, God had already revealed to Abraham that He would increase his descendants (the Israelites) that they will be too numerous to count.

The Egyptian king was thwarting those plans by having the Israelites worked and used ruthlessly, making their lives bitter with forced, hard labor. (Ex 1:11-14)

Job 42:2 (NIV) says “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.

Psalm 33:10 (NIV) says The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.

Indeed, God’s plan to increase the Israelites could not be thwarted. The more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied such that even the Egyptians who were oppressing them came to dread them.

Lord, thank You for this reminder and encouragement that no one can stand against You, Your plan can not be thwarted. You sit enthroned as King of Kings. When someone acts to thwart what Your Word reveals as Your clear will, they can not succeed. Your people can rest in You in Jesus’s name amen.
