How does God love us? Let us count the ways.
Not because of any exceptional or endearing qualities but even while we were opposing Him, Jesus died for us.
Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
2. Steadfast and Faithful
(dutifully firm and unwavering, loyal in allegiance)
Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
Whether we are poor or rich, He does not consider us unworthy.
Job 34:19 who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?
4. Embracing, Inclusive
1 John 3:1a See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
5. Gracious and Reviving
Eph 2:4-5 4 But because of his great love for us,(A) God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved
6. Quieting, Saving, Rejoicing
Zeph 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
8. Great and Atoning
1John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Rom 8: 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?(A) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?(B) 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors(D) through him who loved us.(E) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
10. Selfless, Giving
Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
1John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters
12. Deep, Not Superficial
1Sam 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
13. Compassionate, Thoughtful
Isa 49:15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child(A) she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Psalm 86:8-10 There’s no one quite like you among the gods, O Lord,
and nothing to compare with your works.
All the nations you made are on their way,
ready to give honor to you, O Lord,
Ready to put your beauty on display,
parading your greatness,
And the great things you do—
God, you’re the one, there’s no one but you!
