Have You Felt Let Down By God?

A dear friend messaged me yesterday because she was holding on to the promise of God’s protection but she felt like God didn’t keep His promise and so if He didn’t keep that promise, how can she believe His other promises?

Oh dear, I could totally empathize.  I’ve been in her shoes asking if God wasn’t just a Barney Friend, a figment of my imagination because there was a point in time when I had been counting on Him for certain matters to happen and for certain matters not to happen. And then the opposite of my prayers happened. I thought infinity was too short to be able to count the number of times I asked, “WHY?”

I couldn’t find a better example to cite than the Tanchi Family when Ptr Peter and his wife, Deonna left their house for Makati to teach bible studies. While they were gone, a gang of men entered their home and raped their daughter, Joy.

Ptr. Peter asked:If my God whom I serve cannot protect my daughter, Is it really worth it serving Him?(Feature HERE)

Deonna said:  If God didn’t protect our family, then why should I follow Him? What if I just turned away from God? I was very upset because I had prayed every night for God to protect our family, our children… and then that one night He didn’t. (Feature HERE)

Joy asked: Am I gonna keep following, loving, and trusting God who allowed this to happen to me?  (Feature HERE)

Ravi Zacharias was asked “Why doesn’t God stop bad things [from happening] to good people?”

His reply: [Please try to listen to his explanation but if some of it is a bit too cerebral, please go directly to 4:53 on the video.]

Dear Friend,

My heart goes out to you. I am sorry for your pain.  All feelings are valid and God acknowledges your feelings. You can pour your heart out like water to Him. King David was as raw and authentic as he could get asking God and lamenting. You can ask God your questions. I pray that amidst this trial, He will literally show you His unchanging love and compassion. Even if it may look to you like it’s impossible to find any good now or in the future about what has happened, I pray that He will very, very soon reveal the good He will use it for.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

May you find great comfort in the testimonies of Ptr. Peter, Deonna, and Joy Tanchi and ultimately in the God of All Comfort Himself in Jesus’s name amen.
