VanDusen Botanical Garden, Vancouver

VanDusen Garden is a sight to behold!  Named after Canadian lumberman and philanropist, Whitford Julian VanDusen, it is one of five parks in the posh Shaughnessy neighbourhood, occupying a parcel of the old Shaughnessy Golf Course.

The man who designed the garden, R. Roy Forster, was given the second highest honor for merit, the Order of Canada for his brilliant work.

It’s easy to ooh-and-aah over the spectacular art and science synergy in this 22-hectare garden but the work that goes behind the scenes in this labor of love is a team of administrative staff supported by six  gardeners, summer interns, and about 1200 non-gardening volunteers!

I fell in love with this garden the first summer I visited it. With God’s grace, even if today’s visit fell during the last breath of autumn, the Garden offered a last-hurrah spectacular tapestry.

Bursting with color, the leaves seemed to rejoice and clap their hands… even though in this temporary season, in fact, they were dying.  What a challenge for a race whose ultimate mortality rate is 100%! But each time we get the gift of today, it is a time for rejoicing!

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Almost ready for the December Festival of Lights!

I didn’t get to try the food at Shaughnessy Restaurant this time. But about five years ago, we had tea at the Truffles Cafe. Would love to try one of this, Lord willing, next Vancouver trip.

Matthew and me. And my solos are taken by him 🙂
Isaiah 55:12
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
