Has anyone despised and rejected you? Has someone’s words made you question your worth or made you think less of yourself? There are times when you and I do need to be told the truth in love if we have a wrong attitude or if there is spinach in between our teeth. That we need to appreciate. But when someone unnecessarily puts you down often enough, you may be tempted to believe it and get discouraged or depressed.
Even if I tell the Mona Lisa every day that it is worth $1, its precious value will not change one bit. Who are you? Whose are you? If you are a child of God, you are the precious daughter of the King of Kings. Some people get awestruck and get on their best behavior when they talk to the daughter of a business tycoon or a famous celebrity but you are the daughter of the Owner of everything on earth. Everyone comes and departs naked into and out of this earth and whatever is on earth remains in the hands of the Alpha and Omega.
You are the apple of God’s eye. (Psalm 17:8). Genesis 12:3 says, “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt.” You have an Ally rooting for you, an Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent Helper (Psalm 121). So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Heb 13:6) You are not designed by Apple or Louis Vuitton or Maserati. You are designed and created by the Designer’s Designer with his all-knowing wisdom . Psalm 139:13-14) The world puts forward a certain standard of superficial beauty which some people obsess to even fabricate. Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart (1Sam 16:7). Of course, you have to present yourself the best you can and not have to look ragged and tattered but you need to have a healthy acceptance of the unchangeables in your life. Jesus died for you with an unconditional love even in your sinful state (Rom 5:8). God loves you with an everlasting love (Jer 31:3).
Jesus himself knows what you go through when you are despised or rejected by person(s) you love and serve. Isaiah 53:2-4 says,3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. He is compassionate for the brokenhearted . He wept upon seeing Mary’s grief on the death of her brother, Lazarus. John 11:33,35 says,33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.35 Jesus wept.
When Saul breathed out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples (Acts 9:1), Jesus took those threats personally. In Acts 9:4 Jesus said, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” God is on your side. Receive his love, compassion, love, joy, and peace. He will come and save you .
Remember what Mufasa told Simba, the Lion King, “You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become… Remember who you are. You are my son”.
