Ogie Alcasid, singer-songwriter, television presenter, and actor who is currently the President of OPM (Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-Aawit) shared the song he composed when his wife, Regine Velasquez, went through a difficult time in her life.
He shared his favorite verse,
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
“Before I could actually grasp the meaning of that verse, I had to be broken. Many of you may see me making fun of myself on TV but there was a period in my life when I was broken.
When I was broken… and that was during the time when I had a failed marriage and I couldn’t understand what was happening in my life— I felt shame, I felt guilt, I was dirt. I don’t know if you can find any kind of love that God the Father can show you more than what that verse can say. He not only fixed me but He redeemed me. He not only fixed what was broken but He made me whole again. He even made me fall in love again. If you think about it, how is it possible that someone like me (so sinful…-looking [he joked]) can actually have a failed marriage, be redeemed, and to top it off, fall in love again, and get married again. And He makes it even crazier. These two women are best friends. [His ex-wife, beauty queen, Michelle van Eimeren, is now remarried to Mark Morrow.]
It’s crazy, my entire family functions as a unit. Brothers and sisters, I had nothing to do with that. It was all God.
I stand before you today telling you, if you feel broken, it’s never too late because God loves us.”
