1 Kings 18:21 NIV Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”. In Matt 12:30 NIV, Jesus said, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” The Message translation: Matt 12:30 MSG “This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy; if you’re not helping, you’re making things worse.”

Elijah gives a challenge to make a decision once and for all to stop having a divided heart and mind, abstaining from the vote. By what Jesus says that there is no in-between, to decide to be undecided is to decide to be against Him. We may cry, “But Lord, I am not ready! Can I decide next time? I am afraid. That is outside my comfort zone”. Delayed obedience or partial obedience are still disobedience and therefore, sin. How difficult this is for us who are “only human” (another excuse to disobey).

Thank God that He is also able to provide us with a heart that is responsive and obedient to Him.

Eze 11:19 NLT (God says) And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart, 20 so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.

Dear Lord,
It is comfortable to be in between and sometimes too cozy that I just want to stay here. The deceitfulness of the heart justifies the dilly-dallying to obey You. Thank You for the bright light of Your Word that shows all the flying dust and hidden dirt. Thank You for Your reminder that I need to decide to follow You or else I am serving the enemy. Thank You that You not only are able but are willing to give me singleness of heart and put a new spirit in me, Your Holy Spirit to guide, lead, and empower me. You will perform Your healing heart surgery to take away my stony, hard, stubborn heart that runs away from You and give me a tender, responsive heart that seeks after You so that I will obey You. I will truly be among Your people and You will be my God in Jesus’s name amen.
